The Menzies Research Centre hosted an expert panel in Canberra, discussing the future of Australia’s nearest neighbour in the midst of the current constitutional upheaval. Speakers included:

  • Hon Julie Bishop MP, Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade
  • Professor David Weisbrot AM, Professor of Legal Policy at the United States Studies Centre and a former Dean of Law at the University of Papua New Guinea
  • Dr Ron May, Emeritus Fellow at the ANU College of Asia and the Pacific who discussed stability in PNG and its implications for Australia
  • Dr Graeme Smith, Post-Doctoral Research Fellow China Studies Centre who discussed the role the Chinese in PNG
