Future Looks Gas
The MRC is ready for a big 2020, starting with a report into the potential of gas as an interim to new energy technology. By Nick Cater.
The leading challenge for Australia in 2020 is the need for cheap and available gas, particularly in the nation’s populous south-east. A reliable supply of cheap gas in a competitive market would not only reduce emissions, but would stabilise the grid and allow renewables to thrive.
We were encouraged to hear Scott Morrison take up the cause in his National Press Club Speech (see the video highlight above). The MRC has embarked on a major research project examining the potential of gas.
Another priority is to look at the cost of doing business across each state and territory, mindful of Robert Menzies’ words that the most important role of government is to allow business to thrive.
Defence strategy, housing and the future of work are also on our radar.
We’ll be launching two books before Easter. Tony Abbott will be present for the launch of Abbott: The Defining Speeches at a series of events around the country.
They include the MRC’s first cellar-door event at O’Leary Walker Wines in the Clare Valley. With a gourmet lunch and convivial wines this is an event wroth travelling for.
Keep an eye open for details of the launch of David Kemp’s A Democratic Nation (1901 – 1930) State Experiments and Industrial Power in Sydney and Melbourne in March.
We at the MRC are very optimistic about the year ahead. We look forward to you joining us for the ride.
